Many things came out of the chance encounter between Sophie Goode and David Lebel in New York City's Washington Square Park: hours of procrastination, two degrees from NYU, countless international flights, one rushed proposal, and a shotgun wedding. More enduring than any of those, however, was Clara, the only child of their ill-fated union. Clara was born and raised in Denver after her parents moved to Sophie's native Colorado following their wedding. But this was not to last. When Clara was a toddler, her parents split up. Deciding to keep her in the States, her mother and father made arrangements to have their daughter split her time between Denver and Toledo, spending the school year in Colorado and the summer in Spain.

Longing for a change and the ability to make her own plans rather than being carted back and forth across the Atlantic, Clara followed in her parents' footsteps and moved across the country, where she attended New York University. There she studied history and art history. After graduating, she moved back home and spent two years serving as a teacher in Denver as part of Teach for America. Impassioned by her time in underprivileged schools, she enrolled at Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver hoping to work in education advocacy. However, she found herself floundering in her first semester, overwhelmed by her workload and the stress of her father's second cancer diagnosis. After she stopped doing her reading and attending lectures, she officially dropped out. She currently works at Anthropologie and part time as a substitute teacher.

• Has three tattoos: the Hebrew word for "woman" on her right ribcage, a semi-colon on her wrist, and a Harry Potter lightning scar behind her left ear.

• Is half Sephardi Jewish on her father's side. Her father lives in Toledo, Spain. Her mother's family, originally from Denver, is Catholic. Clara does not consider herself religious, although she is deeply interested in her family's cultural and religious history.

• Is the mother to a beloved dog, Branwell. She calls him Bran, partially in tribute to her favorite character in A Song of Ice and Fire.

• In high school and college, Clara was regularly involved in the arts, especially musical theater and visual arts. She is a mezzo soprano and continues to paint in her free time.

• Was a champion horseback rider in middle and high school. She abruptly quit her junior year and hasn't ridden since.

• As her parents divorced when she was two years old, Clara spent her school years in the states and her summers visiting her extended family in Spain. In college, she spent a semester living in Toledo.

• Speaks a modest (and therefore shameful) amount of Spanish. Is teaching herself Hebrew.

• Likes: classic rock, dog videos, plaid, oversized glasses, collecting records and used books, Harry Potter, art galleries, satirical news programs, Fiona Apple, seafood, Marc Chagall, do-it-yourself crafts, going dancing, Mel Brooks, running, dry humor, singing, skiing, photography, Wes Anderson movies, Conan O'Brien

• Dislikes: white wine, pumpkin spice lattes, "theater kids," baseball, rodents, anyone who dislikes David Bowie

As an only child, Clara is self-sufficient and tends toward self-reliance, although she is amiable with most people. She will speak her mind when necessary but generally avoids conflict for conflict's sake, often preferring cooperation to competition. This sometimes makes people view her as a push-over; Clara prefers to think of it as choosing her battles. Although she likes her own company, she welcomes companions and is generally easy-going, good humored, and friendly. Because of her more reserved demanor, people sometimes think of her as snobbish or conceited (which she can be). In school her frequent trips to Europe and perceived shyness gave her a reputation as a prissy girl. This impression, combined with her affinity for social media and occasional abruptness, has led some to view her as self-involved and overly concerned with her own image.

Clara is accustomed to receiving attention and praise, as she is used to succeeding at her endeavors. This makes it extremely disillusioning when she fails at something. When things do not go her way, she is prone to brooding.

Despite her parents' divorce and her own relationship difficulties, Clara remains optimistic about love and romance.
